BELOVED FLOOR
Zen poem by Phi Tuyet
When I was springs, I used to hate mopping the floor
Coz I didn’t have time for it
There was money to make and fame to build
There were news to read and books to write
There were friends to talk and dreams to chase
There was so much this and there was so much that…
When I was young, the world seemed vast and my eyes liked to look far away to the horizon rather than look at the floor right under my feet
But now, when I’m less springs
Witnessed so many times glorious horizon comed and vanished
the floor still stays around as humble as ever
Now when I’m more autumn
Everytime kneeling on the floor with a wet towel on my hands
I just feel so grateful
to have a floor to mop
I just feel so thankful
to have my me-time alone with the floor
And I will
clean it
with full attention in my heart
And I will
wash it
with the fullest love on my hands
And I will mop it
like I’m cleaning a temple
Bowing myself down to it
Spreading my love
and pouring my soul
to every single tile of it
Center to conners and conners to edges
And I will do it again
Until the floor becomes soaked
with halos
To make sure
When you come
Stand on the floor I had mopped
